Rock Paper Streamers was asked to design and style a brunch party for a friend. Her garden is full of beautiful blooms and lush greenery, so we picked her backyard as the perfect setting for this event.
The hostess wanted a no-fuss, casual setting. She wanted to serve finger foods, a fun signature drink and few bite size sweet treats. Inspired by her personality, we decided to put a sophisticated, modern twist on a traditional garden party.
We went with a classic black and white color palette, accented with different hues of green and yellow. The bold graphic tablecloth served as a starting point to help draw the eye in and anchor all the other elements on the table. Playing around with different heights, layers and textures is the key to creating visual interest on a tablescape.
A great tip is to use food choices, if possible, as a prop itself for adding color! We used bright berry reds and fresh greens consistently throughout the food spread to tie in with the entire color scheme of the table.
Get creative! Look around your own house. You’d be surprised how many items you already own that can be repurposed as platters and serving pieces. Drinks served in unexpected glasses adds a fun whimsical appeal, and really, who can resist fruit served in mini ice cream cones?!
On our table, the garden tool charms tied around the drinks was the perfect quirky touch , and complemented the garden wreath.
Remember, less is more! A great idea is to avoid cluttering your focal table with plates and cutlery. Use a bar cart or a chic side table tucked away on the side to hold these items. Always, always leave room for seasonal flowers! They’re an inexpensive way to add a fresh pop of color.
The party was very well appreciated. It was a lovely day indeed, full of great conversation around a beautiful setting. Sip, Sip, Hooray!
