It’s almost time! The last day of school is around the corner. If you’re in the same boat as us and trying to figure out how to keep the kids busy this summer, we’ve got a fun twist on a summer staple, burgers and fries. This is a hands-on activity that will keep the little ones excited to help in the kitchen. The result is a whimsical party dessert that can be served at all of your backyard playdates and pool parties.
Here’s how we ‘grilled our burgers’. For the buns, we used 2″ circle cookie cutters to cut rounds out of yellow cake. Ours came straight from a boxed mix. The patties were cut from brownies using the same 2″ circle cookie cutters. We added our favorite ‘toppings’ using frosting that was tinted red, green and yellow. We brushed the tops of the buns with a little sugar water, and stuck on a few sesame seeds to give the look of a real sesame hamburger bun! The fries were made using sugar cookie dough, cut into thin strips and baked. We found a simple french fry bag template online and used it to put together a cute paper bag to store our cookie fries. It was as easy as that!
Kids and grown ups alike will get a kick out of this treat! This would be a great surprise Father’s Day dessert too. Happy Grilling!
